Are you ready for Document L?

Helping our customers to understand the new regulations.

The recent revisions to the Building Regulations Document L come into force in October and are driven by a European Union commitment to reduce energy consumption in buildings.

The revisions for domestic windows show both a tightening of U values and the application of Window Energy Ratings allowing the effect of solar gain to offset heat lost through a window.

Commercial buildings will have to be at least 25% more efficient in energy consumption; however the limiting values for fenestration remain largely unchanged at 2.2W/mk.

You can find general advice covering the revisions to Document L on our website: www.smartsystems.co.uk/docl2010.

Document L Seminars

The Document L one day seminars, detailed on the link above, have been designed to provide our customers with a complete understanding of both what the changes mean and what will be required of fabricators to ensure that windows comply with the revised legislation.

The seminars will be essential for anyone within your company who works with the building regulations and would be affected by these changes.

Providing you with the tools to help achieve compliance

With Window Energy Ratings now a key route to compliance with Document L, it will become necessary for fabricators to provide labels stating the calculated energy rating of a window. These labels are similar to the labels that are in use on white goods.

To simplify this task for our customers, Smarts has developed new software that makes the calculation and generation of Window Energy Rating labels easy. Copies of this software will be distributed at each seminar and will also be available by request after the event.

The seminar will also provide customers with an opportunity to see Smart’s new Tecalex extrusion press in action and also view the new Alitherm ‘A’ rated window.
