GRAND DESIGNS FEATURING ALITHERM WINDOWS FROM SMART SYSTEMS

The aesthetically pleasing appearance and versatility of aluminium windows and doors including the Alitherm polyamide window from Smart Systems was evident for all to see on the popular channel 4 TV programme Grand Designs. The programme featured a most unusual private domestic property in the shape of a converted Water Tower located in Rolvenden, Kent.

Set in beautiful rural surroundings, this architect designed property is distinctive and modern. No wonder then that this unusual dwelling attracted the attention of the producers of the Grand Designs programme which is viewed by millions of people in the UK.

Smart Systems supplied a variety of aluminium profiles from its extensive range to its established trade fabricator and installer Rickards Windows and Conservatories of Paddock Wood, Kent. This renowned local installer carried out the installation of windows and doors in the Water Tower that included SC Curtain Walling, Slide Patio Doors, Visoline Doors and Alitherm Windows. Colin Rickard the proprietor of Rickards said that "The Water Tower is an extraordinary installation which generated a great deal of interest. The owners of the Water Tower, Mr & Mrs Deltufo, chose Smart aluminium windows and doors because of their aesthetically pleasing sightlines and their suitability for purpose. In particular they opted for Alitherm windows because the system is thermally efficient and carries a BSI Kitemark in respect of BS 7950/4873."

The Water Tower has a fascinating history as it was built to supply water to Great Maytham Hall that is associated with the original "Secret Gardens". The original concrete Water Tower built in 1915 was the first square water tower ever and was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens.

When Mr and Mrs Deltufo bought the Water Tower they decided to add to the structure and were keen to choose a design that would not only enhance it but also provide them with a practical and comfortable home. They believe they have achieved just that with the use of glass and concrete which reflect a chic modernity set in the middle of Kent, surrounded by "Oust" houses.

Smart Systems is a dynamic company that is committed to high standards of quality and workmanship and is pleased to be associated with the Water Tower installation and that they are suppliers to Rickards Windows and Conservatories Limited.
