As part of a major refurbishment programme to repair and enhance Woodcote House, the Warwickshire Police Head Quarters, Smart Architectural Aluminium’s partners Newbury Commercial Glazing successfully completed the replacement of 109 windows and seven door sets over a six week period.

Built in 1861 and extended in 1869, the Grade II listed Woodcote House was designed in the Elizabethan style by architect John Gibson and constructed using locally quarried stone. It was used as a convalescent home for injured US servicemen in World War II, before becoming the Police HQ in 1949. Further development in the 1960s and 70s saw a new wing added to the East of the building which provided significantly more office accommodation for Police staff.

To further extend the building’s longevity, replace the life-expired window and door systems and deliver improved thermal performance, new Smart window and door systems were specified for the refurbishment of the East wing, with Smart’s high-performance EcoFutural window and Smart Wall door systems selected.

Not only did these Smart solutions deliver improvements in performance and to the working environment, but the elegant design of both systems enhanced the overall aesthetics of the building, with the windows and doors all supplied in a classic anthracite grey matt finish.

Oliver Newbury, Director at Newbury Commercial Glazing, said: “We worked closely with the construction team and our colleagues at Smart to provide window and door systems which met the project’s performance, aesthetic and budget requirments. Having worked closely with Smart for well over a decade, we know that the systems not only deliver high quality, high performance solutions, but are also designed to be fast and straightforward to fabricate and install.”

The programme was completed in just six weeks, with Newbury Commercial Glazing working closely with the client and main contractor to minimise any disruption to the building’s occupants.
